Youth with disabilities face significantly higher unemployment
rates compared to their peers due to various barriers, including
Negative
self-perception and lack of confidence, Inaccessible environments
, Limited awareness among employers, Inequities in education and
skill development ,
In areas like Garden Reach and Metiabruz, there is a lack of skill
training centers, leaving youth, especially those who have completed
10+2, without opportunities to acquire essential skills. As a
result, many lose interest in productive pursuits and are vulnerable
to being drawn into anti-social activities.
GRITRR has
partnered with other NGOs to provide skill training and job placement
for these youth to address this

Patna, Bihar
Supports people with disabilities through its interventions in
healthcare, education and skill development.
The foundation conducts vocational training workshops in computer
skills, using sewing machine, TV and mobile repairing. It further
organises free health check-up camps, performs free operations
for handicapped patients and performs free cataract operations.

Skilling programme for the youth with disabilities and the underprivileged
Samarthanam Livelihood Resource Centres are established across
major cities of India which impart livelihood training to youth
with disabilities and the underprivileged, enhancing their skill-sets
and paving way for a sustainable livelihood and economic independence.
Samarthanam
understands the significance and support the disabled youth with
necessary mobilization, training, grooming and confidence building,
escorting them into the job world to lead their independent lives.
Samarthanam Skilling Centres established across 14 cities of India
focus on the rural population with the objective of contributing
to their socio economic wellbeing. While skill building and training
help the youth enhance their skillset, various additions like
motivational sessions, mock interviews, personality building,
volunteer interactions, exposure visits and so on, buttresses
their overall profile.
Samarthanam Skilling Centres work towards mitigating the unemployment
rate among the underprivileged youths in India. The centres employ
a three step process, including Mobilization, Training and Placement,
for reaching out to the unemployed youth and improving their chances
at job placement.
The centers
offer industry specific market driven training in different sectors
like Hospitality, Retail, Garments, IT & ITES, Entrepreneurship
and Business Management Skills. Technical and sector based skill
training, like training in BPO and Call Centre operations, are
designed to suit the needs of the industry. Training categories
include tele-calling, communication skills, accent training, customer
service, soft skills, client relations and conflict management.
The training curriculum has been developed in consultation with
industry experts to meet the market demand. The training, food
and accommodation is provided free of cost and post training,
the candidates are provided with placement and post placement
support. Each LRC is accompanied with separate hostel facility
for boys and girls providing free food and accommodation.
The Skill
Development Centres are equipped with accessible infrastructure
to support persons with disabilities including ramps, wheelchairs,
railings (for persons with physical disabilities), JAWS software,
Braille and audio books (for persons with visual disabilities),
signs and boards (for persons with hearing impairments).
Sun
Foundation
Taare Zameen
Par (TZP) which was started in 2008 empowers this sizeable group
of differently abled youth by providing a platform for their economic
self-reliance. Under this project, Sun Foundation is currently
running 3 skill development centres in Delhi for differently abled
young adults who can and want to work. The Foundation is committed
to help these young adults to secure a job and earn their own
living and feel valued and have a sense of purpose in life. Various
courses being conducted at TZP centres are Textile Designing,
Graphic Designing, Drafting & Stitching, English Speaking,
Physiotherapy and Computer Basics. The package of courses in each
centre is designed keeping in view the interests of the beneficiaries.
The skill development centres conduct training courses of 6 months
to 1 year duration on regular basis throughout the year. After
successful completionof the course, students are awarded a certificate
by Sun Foundation. Since its inception in 2008, 710 students have
received vocational training up to 15th August 2015 at four centres
of TZP.

Skill development for visually impaired
Turnstone
Global runs a skill development program for visually challenged
persons aged between 18-35 years by providing training on various
vocational skill and sustainable employment opportunities with
the aim to enable the youth with visual impairment to live financially
independent lives. The
program comprises of Basic : Skill
building, Sector Specific hands on training, Pre-Employment Grooming
& Training, Allied Activities and workshops, Regular Assessments
and Feedback.
