High cost of living puts pressure on many married women to seek
employment. However, due to a lack of marketable skills, they
often end up in low-paying jobs, such as house help or low-skilled
factory work. This perpetuates a cycle of low income and low self-esteem,
which affects their standing within both their families and society.
ETASHA Society is dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering
women from underprivileged communities. We support women between
the ages of 35 and 65 in becoming socially and financially self-reliant,
whether as individuals or as group entrepreneurs. Our programs
are tailored to the specific needs of women from disadvantaged
backgrounds, with the ultimate goal of fostering their social
and financial independence.

The initiative bridges the skills-employability divide for marginalised
youth and women with digital skill-based training. We aim to provide
easy access to digital technology skills for all communities,
enabling better and more inclusive livelihoods in India's digital
economy. Skilling and Employability Initiative aims to bridge
the skills-employability divide for young people and women with
goal to make digital technology skills accessible to all, enabling
more inclusive livelihoods in India's digital economy.

The large population of underprivileged youth residing in urban
slums lack or possess negligible vocational skills. This prevents
them from taking advantage of the vast employment opportunities
in the cities of India. Therefore, many youth living in urban
communities remain unemployed or under-employed.Skills training
is one of the most powerful tools for making a lasting impact
on the lives of these young people and their families. The aim
is to make them self-reliant and instill Changemaker qualities
in each one of our students.
NIIT Foundation
is providing skill training by setting up IT Foundation Centers.
These centers are meant for tier three towns. The IT programs
are designed for people who may be digitally literate. A foundation
is provided to build careers. These centers offer courses including
personality development, communication skills and impart work-etiquettes
in the students. These centers focus on the all-round development
of every beneficiary at the center. The courses are long term.
These centers target students in the age of 16-30 years.
3) Skilling Going Virtual
In order to ensure that Learning can take place Anytime and Anywhere,
NIIT Foundation has transitioned to a Learning Management System
(LMS) for its students. LMS is available in both web and app format.
There are both career and non-career courses available on this
system. These include Retail and Inventory Management, Logistics,
Digital Marketing, Personality Development and Spoken English.
There is also Active Basic IT, Career Edge IT Professional, Professional
Edge, Digital Literacy and financial literacy courses that students
have access to on LMS. In order for this to work, students are
also being provided with a lot of self-learning material including
E-books, videos, quizzes, collaborative exercises and module assignments.
NIIT Foundation is also providing online assessments after each
module and summative assessments during term end, for certification.

Life Skills Training Through Creative Arts & Technology
Girls across India seek skills that will make them employable.
Yet gender-based discrimination and limiting stereotypes keep
many girls from living their dreams. Particularly in skills development
for successful transition to employability, adolescent girls are
lagging far behind. This exclusion limits girls’ opportunities,
threatens their successful transition to adulthood, adversely
impacts their long-term health and well-being, and robs the world
of their potential contributions. Investment in skills-building
initiatives is one critical pathway to building girls’ and young
women’s self-confidence and resilience, increasing their access
to opportunities, ensuring their equal participation in the labor
force, and promoting their empowerment.

Surya Kiran
has established a large number of Skill Development Centres in
various parts of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi. Most of
these centres are located in rural areas which are remote and
not easily accessible and lack good road communication and public
transport facilities. Surya Kiran centres have been able to make
a mark in such a scenario with minimum support of govt. agencies
and overwhelming support of the local villagers and gram panchayats.
Main courses conducted in these centres are drafting and stitching,
textile designing, embroidery, basic computer knowledge and life
style products. The package of courses in each centre is designed
keeping in view the interests of local girls and women. Depending
upon the type of skill, our Skill Development Centres conduct
training courses of 4 to 6 months’ duration on regular basis throughout
the year. After successful completion of the course, students
are awarded a certificate by Sun Foundation . The certificate
helps them in seeking better job opportunities.

Taare Zameen
Par (TZP) which was started in 2008 empowers this sizeable group
of differently abled youth by providing a platform for their economic
self-reliance. Under this project, Sun Foundation is currently
running 3 skill development centres in Delhi for differently abled
young adults who can and want to work. The Foundation is committed
to help these young adults to secure a job and earn their own
living and feel valued and have a sense of purpose in life. Various
courses being conducted at TZP centres are Textile Designing,
Graphic Designing, Drafting & Stitching, English Speaking,
Physiotherapy and Computer Basics. The package of courses in each
centre is designed keeping in view the interests of the beneficiaries.
The skill development centres conduct training courses of 6 months
to 1 year duration on regular basis throughout the year. After
successful completionof the course, students are awarded a certificate
by Sun Foundation. Since its inception in 2008, 710 students have
received vocational training up to 15th August 2015 at four centres
of TZP.

Online market to poor artisans
sabkasaman.com is an initiative by UPAY NGO(उपाय) to provide an
online market to poor artisans and footpath hawkers. Through sabkasaman
women from slums and villages are getting trained and getting
online market for their products.
UPAY has started
skill development centres to enhance the skills of poor womenfolks.
At present UPAY is giving sewing training to poor women and also
engaged unemployed youth in skill development.
Samarth –
Skill Development Centres
Samarth
is a skill development initiative for women, especially mothers
of our students and young women, with a motive to empower them
through skill-based employability opportunities. The initiative
was launched in the year 2016 to free families to break the shackles
of poverty and provide dignity of labour. A six-month training
course makes the beneficiaries industry-ready followed by order-based
work allocation. The Samarth centres are currently running in
Nagpur, Delhi-NCR, Gadarwara and Bengaluru.
