Hindalco engagement with communities
Hindalco engages with communities at each and every stage of project
execution through a institutionalized feedback process. The company
uses focused mechanisms to involve the Village Development Committees
(VDCs), Gram Pradhan and Self Help Groups (SHGs) as well as direct
project beneficiaries in the decision making process. The company
carries social satisfaction surveys conducted through third party
independent assessors such as NGOs and social institutions. Structured

RIL supports primary health care centres in several
locations through management support, distribution of free medicines
and has also invested in testing centres for diseases like HIV/AIDS
and TB. In terms of ensuring that the communities are not adversely
affected by plant activities, RIL conducts regular community-oriented
trainings on fire safety, spills and explosions.
RIL has several programmes to promote waste management, including-
a zero garbage campaign in its townships and surrounding
villages at Hazira, a programme to support rag pickers in recycling
PET bottles in Surat, awareness generation programmes and construction
of roads using 5 % plastic waste in collaboration with the Gujarat
Engineering Research Institute.
