Shamli (formerly Prabuddh Nagar) is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The district was carved out of Muzaffarnagar district on 28 September 2011 as Prabudh Nagar and renamed Shamli in July 2012. The district is located approximately 100 km from Delhi along the Delhi–Saharanpur highway. Shamli lies in the fertile Doab region and hence the major occupation is agriculture. The district is known for its sugar mills and supplies sugar to neighbouring areas.
